Once upon a time, in a small village by the sea in West Sumatra, lived a boy named Malin Kundang. He was a diligent child who lived with his poor mother. One day, a merchant ship stopped at the shore near their village. Malin helped the sailors and was invited to sail with them. He promised his mother that he would come back with wealth.

Years passed, and Malin became a successful merchant. When his ship anchored near his hometown, his mother heard the news and ran to meet him. But Malin, ashamed of his poor old mother, refused to recognize her and called her a beggar. His mother was heartbroken and prayed to God to punish him. Suddenly, a storm came, and Malin was turned into stone as punishment for disobeying his mother.

Narrative Text 2: The Clever Deer

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, lived a clever deer. One hot afternoon, he went to the river to drink. Suddenly, a hungry tiger appeared from the bushes. The deer was frightened but tried to stay calm. When the tiger got closer, the deer said, “Wait! There is another tiger in the river who claims to be stronger than you.” Curious, the tiger looked into the water and saw his reflection. Thinking it was another tiger, he roared and jumped into the river to fight. He drowned, and the deer escaped happily.

The deer was very thankful for his quick thinking. Since that day, he became the wisest animal in the forest and helped other animals escape danger by using clever ideas.
